Potassium Hydroxide
Name: Potassium Hydroxide Synonyms: Caustic Potash Molecular Formula: KOH CAS No: 1310-58-3 EINECS No: 215-181-3 Appearance: White flake solid, deliquescent Content (Purity): ≥90% / ≥95%; Availa
Product Description
Potassium Hydroxide, commonly known as Caustic Potash, is an odorless white flaky solid with extremely strong deliquescence, easily absorbing moisture and carbon dioxide in the air to deteriorate. It has a density of approximately 2.04 g/cm³ at 20℃, a melting point of 360℃ and a boiling point of about 1320℃ with thermal decomposition at high temperature. It is highly soluble in water with intense heat release, soluble in ethanol and glycerin, and insoluble in ethers. As a highly reactive strong alkaline inorganic chemical raw material, it reacts readily with acids, acidic oxides and heavy metal salts. Industrial grades include ≥90% and ≥95% purity, supplied by mainstream brands: Huarong, Unid and Yanhu, featuring stable quality and low impurity content. It is widely used in potassium salt synthesis, daily chemical washing, electroplating and metallurgy, textile printing and dyeing, papermaking deinking, pharmaceutical intermediates, wastewater treatment and fine chemical industries.
Safety and Handling Notes
Potassium Hydroxide is classified as Class 8 highly corrosive hazardous chemical and dangerous goods. It is non-flammable but extremely corrosive and irritating. Direct contact of dust, solid particles or solution with skin, mucous membranes and eyes will cause severe deep chemical burns; inhalation of dust may irritate and damage the respiratory tract. Operators must follow standard operating procedures and wear complete qualified PPE, including alkali-resistant chemical gloves, alkali-proof protective clothing, face shields and dust masks. Keep the workplace dry and well ventilated, avoid dust dispersion, and prohibit eating, drinking and smoking during operation. Store products in fully sealed containers in a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse, protected from moisture, rain and deterioration. Keep away from heat sources and water sources. Do not store or transport together with strong acids, strong oxidizers, acidic salts, metal powders, organic substances and other incompatible chemicals. Never add water to solid potassium hydroxide during dissolution; slowly add the material into water with continuous stirring to prevent splashing and burns. Transport with qualified hazardous-goods vehicles and sealed packages to avoid package breakage, dust leakage and moisture absorption. Handle with care to prevent collision and damage. All operational standards shall comply with the product SDS and local applicable regulations.
